IR Magic Black Solas3™ is a Covert IR Material that is only Reflective when viewed with night vision equipment.
This matt black Military grade IR material, can be used for making IR patches, pinstriping and other products that require a covert/IR reflective.
Magic Black coating covers the reflective surface so that it does not reflect normal light and appears as black to the unaided eye.

Magic Black is made and developed by Anytime Sign.
We regulate the quality and thickness on our screen printed products for ultimate opacity in the visible spectrum.
In the infrared spectrum (750-1500 nm) Magic Black becomes transparent allowing for
the SOLAS3™ to reflect light back to Night Vision equipment, providing crystal-clear friend or foe identification.

When 3M Company discontinued 3M Solas material in 2020,
we had a Solas material specifically manufactured so we could continue to offer products
with as close as possible adhesive, appearance, and sewing characteristics
as 3M Solas material. Solas3™ is a USCG certified material.

Solas3 ( both IR Magic Black and Reflective versions) is safe to cut on a laser, it does not contain PVC.

IR Magic Black Solas3™ sheets are actually 21" x 12",
but there is small border around the outside edge that is un-coated, so they are sold as a 20"x11"

IR Magic Black Solas3™ is NOT THERMAL material, and will not glow when viewed with a thermal viewer or camera.

Raw Reflective Solas3™ products are Not Covert, and will reflect light under any condition.

Both IR Magic Black Solas3™ and Raw Reflective Solas3™ reflect brightly when viewed with night vision equipment.

Materials called "Economy IR" are NOT considered miltary grade.

IR Magic Black Solas3™ and Raw Reflective Solas3™ come in many die cut sizes with Vlecro backing, or adhesive.

IR Magic Black Solas3™ and Raw Reflective Solas3™, are sold in full sheets 20"x11"
and come in adhesive backed, Gold ( mylar backed) , or sew-on fabric SOLAS (fabric is 3M).

If you are unsure which Solas material will work best for your manufacture process you can get a small sample of each of three types of solas just send us an email with your mailing address requesting a Solas Sample Set.

All three types of Solas3™ ( adhesive, mylar backed and fabric) can be sewn with an industrial sewing machine. Special considerations must be taken to sew Solas successfully. When sewing to a suitable fabric or to a piece of velcro, use thread comparable to #69 nylon or a equivalent acceptable thread. Sew a 301 or 3/16 inch (4.75 mm) lockstitch using 5-12 stitches per inch. We do recommend that you test the sewn final product to ensure the results are acceptable for your application. Stitches averaging 7-9 stitches per inch would give better tear-strength results. Using a titanium needle is suggested when sewing thick layers. Sewing Solas3™ or 3M Fabric Solas may require cleaning the sewing needle with a glue remover at regular intervals to prevent thread snapping. There is a very strong adhesive which bonds the 3M Fabric Solas layers to each other, this will gum up the sewing needle, making embroidery of 3M Fabric Solas impossible.

Colored Solas3 sheets are screen printed with 3M brand transparent inks.
